Plant processes specifically dedicated to the maximum industrial exploitation of digestates resulting from anaerobic processes. With the ability to test commercial and production results in the company’s laboratory

The PAL-IMAL group, which boasts 30 years of international experience in refining and processing organic biomass, has perfected a series of technological processes dedicated to the commercial exploitation of digestates arising from anaerobic processes through PAL’s environmental Green Division.

The proposed solutions are structured according to the following factors:

-       the origin of the digested fractions (sorted moist urban waste, agricultural waste, animal excrement, etc.);

-       the anaerobic digestion technology adopted (dry-biocell, moist and semi-dry processes);

-       the final destinations of the product (for agricultural and/or industrial use).

The refining processes, which are highly innovative compared to traditional methods, have been specifically studied and implemented by drawing on the experience gained in cutting-edge sectors of industry, allowing highly impressive performances to be achieved. The immediately identifiable benefits may be summarized as follows:

-       a general, specific increase in compost production;

-       the ability to obtain very high-quality fractions for use in agriculture and nursery cultivation;

-       a sharp decrease in dust emissions during plant processing;

-       a reduction of the total volume of waste to be sent to dumps;

-       the ability to recover and recycle the vegetable matrix bulking agent.

Past experience at the plant level has already shown specific productivity increases in high-quality compost of over 15%, along with a decrease in the volume of the waste to be sent for disposal of over 30%.

Yet the main reasons for interest are the extensive flexibility and quality of the end products.

The screening and refining techniques are based on advanced machine component technologies (roller screens, vibrating screens, ballistic and air-based separators), as well as new types of material processing that permit the recovery of fractions that previously were difficult to separate from one another.

The best results are seen in the separation of pollutants of the greatest commercial and qualitative impact, such as:

-       light and heavy plastics;

-       metals; and

-       inert materials (glass, ceramics and inert substances generally).

In these cases, separation efficiency may even exceed 95% in the most advanced processes.

Special milling technologies (high-speed hammers) may also allow overall productivity to be optimized. In fact, in conjunction with screening it is possible to achieve a high level of flexibility in terms of output product type (multiple fractions with sizes of as little as <1.5mm are possible at the same time). This is in addition to the reduction of specific energy consumption and maintenance costs.

Another characteristic that is highly appreciated by customers is the ability to test production and quality results in advance at the company’s laboratories. On the basis of the tests, customers receive reports including samples of the various materials, with analyses of the main characteristics of the process (mass balances, final product quality, energy consumption estimates, operating and maintenance costs, etc.).
